Columnist David Collins will be aboard Brilliant, Mystic Seaport's 1931 schooner, when it competes this week in the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, a 127-mile course from near Annapolis, Md., to Portsmouth, Va.
He will be tweeting progress reports and pictures from the race (@davidcollinsct).
The race starts at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and will continue through the night. Dozens of classic schooners of all sizes will compete in the race, started in 1999, which raises money to fund education programs teaching the preservation of the waters of the bay.
