Salem apple festival, book sale slated for Oct. 28

Salem — The Friends of the Salem Library is holding its annual book sale on Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28 to support the library's programming and collections.

The sale will feature more than 20,000 books collected over the last year, including fiction and non-fiction for adults and children.

The sale is held in the Salem School Gym, 200 Hartford Road, and it runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 27, with admission at 6 p.m. for members of the Friends. It will continue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct, 28, with the $5 bag sale beginning at 1 p.m.

For more information, call (860) 859-1641.

The Congregational Church of Salem's 48th annual apple festival will also be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, starting at 9 a.m. and running until the church's pies, puddings, fritters and other apple dishes are sold out.

Festival prep begins in September, and the church sells out the baked goods every year. Parishioners are also collecting gently-used winter coats to donate to local families in need.

The festival takes place on the Salem Town Green and the church's Christian Community Center across the street. Admission to the festival is free. For more information, call (860) 859-1211.
