Back on display
Soldiers with the Connecticut National Guard's 1109th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG) lower a Vietnam War UH-1D Iroquois (though best known as a "Huey") helicopter onto its display stand in front of the unit on Airport Rd. in Groton, Monday, October 16, 2017.
The helicopter was taken down from its display position about 18-months ago for maintenance. The unit's paint shop has restored the helicopter, built in 1965, to the paint scheme from its service in Vietnam with the 129th Assault Helicopter Company. The unit also displays a Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter.
The display helicopter weighs-in at 5,800 pounds and still has its engine and transmission intact.
