The state police Eastern District Major Crime Squad is investigating an East Haddam assault and is searching for the accused, Jared Rennie, but said there is no threat to the public.

At around 1 a.m. Sunday, an individual had reported to state police in Colchester that an alleged assault had taken place in East Haddam between two people, police said. Eastern District Major Crime detectives investigated and determined a possible location for the suspect and obtained a search warrant.

At 9 p.m. Sunday, the State Police Tactical Team helped serve the search warrant and entered the residence, as the suspect may have had access to a firearm, according to police. The team determined the resident was safe and turned the scene over to the detectives, the report stated.

Police ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of Rennie, 34, to contact detectives at (860) 465-5469 or text TIP711 and the information to 274637. Police said all calls and texts will be confidential.
