Dog owner cited after New London biting incident

New London — The New London Police Department recently issued a pair of infractions to a New London dog owner whose animal attacked another dog last week and sent a woman to the hospital with a severe bite to her hand.

Police said at approximately 7 a.m., Dec. 3, an 8-year-old male pit bull terrier owned by Paul T. Morneau, 55, of 1124 Ocean Ave. escaped while on leash during a walk and attacked another dog and a female victim on Hillside Road. The woman, who was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, told police she'd been bitten while trying to protect her dog.

Police issued Morneau infractions for roaming dog and nuisance dog violations on Dec. 8, police said in a statement Tuesday.

The dog was impounded by the city's animal control officer, police said. The dog was up to date in terms of being registered with the city, but it remains in quarantine for the mandatory two-week period.
