Norwich Board of Ed elects officers

Norwich – With Democrats having regained the majority on the Board of Education Nov. 7 after two years under a Republican majority, a familiar face will return to the chairman position.

The board on Tuesday elected former Chairwoman Yvette Jacaruso as chairman, veteran board Democrat Joyce Werden as vice chairwoman and board newcomer Heather Romanski as secretary.

Jacaruso, starting her 11th year on the board, and Werden, starting her 13th year, are the board’s senior members. Both are retired educators and active on the Norwich Public Schools Education Foundation, which raises money for teachers and classroom projects.

Democrats regained a 6-3 majority on the school board Nov. 7 after Republicans held an unusual 5-4 majority for the past two years.
