Mystic — Shipwright Chris Sanders guides an upper section of the outer stem of the Mayflower II into position for some finishing work Tuesday at Mystic Seaport's H.B. duPont Preservation Shipyard.
The ship, a replica of the vessel that brought the Pilgrims to the New World in 1620, was built in 1957 in England as a gift to the United States in thanks for support during and after WWII and is an attraction at Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Mass. It is undergoing a 30-month restoration at the Seaport in preparation to sail it again on the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim's voyage.
