Mohegan Gaming to manage Canada's biggest casino

Mohegan — Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment announced Monday that it has been named to manage casino properties in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, including the country’s largest gaming facility, Fallsview Casino Resort.

In a news release, Mohegan Sun’s corporate parent said that starting next summer it will assume responsibility for day-to-day operations at Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara and, in the future, the 5,000-seat Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre, which is under construction.

The properties, known as the “Niagara Gaming Bundle,” are owned by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., an Ontario government agency, which chose MGE following “a competitive procurement process,” according to the release.

“This procurement marks Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment’s advancement as a leader in commercial gaming and integrated resort experiences around the world," said Kevin Brown, the Mohegan tribal chairman who heads the MGE Management Board.

Fallsview Casino Resort, built on a 23-acre site overlooking the Canadian and U.S. waterfalls in Niagara Falls, opened in 2004, following the success of Casino Niagara, which opened in 1996. Fallsview features 200,000 square feet of gaming space, a 30-story, 374-room hotel and a 1,500-seat theater.

Casino Niagara, which has 95,000 square feet of gaming space, originally was intended as an “interim” facility, but has remained open.

MGE said it plans to leverage the three properties to drive tourism and create jobs in Niagara Falls.
