Mystic — The Ocean Community YMCA has announced it is waiving membership fees at its locations in Westerly, Mystic and Wyoming for furloughed federal employees facing financial hardship due to the government shutdown.

The YMCA said the policy "will remain in effect until the furloughed workers' compensation is restored."

The YMCA also will offer furloughed employees free trials during the shutdown if they are not currently members.

Furloughed workers wishing to take advantage of the offers should bring their government identification and any furlough documentation to the YMCA location they will be attending. The participating branches are the Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch, the Naik Family Branch in Mystic, and the Arcadia Branch.
