    Avery Point sweeps past Massasoit

    New Britain - Doug Domnarski pitched a two-hitter in the opener as the Avery Point baseball team swept past Massasoit Community College in a doubleheader played at Central Connecticut State University on Sunday.

    Domnarski, the former Stonington High standout, struck out 10 with two walks to move his record to 3-1 as the Pointers won the opener 5-0. Kyle Hart's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Pointers a 3-2 win in the second game. Bryant Morander got the win in relief and John Russell earned a save. Garrett DeLotto had two hits in the second game and in the first game Izzy Davila scored twice and Stan Kesilewski drove in two runs for Avery Point (10-7).

    In other games:

    UConn won its sixth straight weekend series, beating Tulane 5-3 in an American Athletic Conference game. The Huskies (17-9, 2-1) rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth for the win, with Joe DeRoche-Duffin's leadoff homer tying the game at 3-3. An error gave UConn a 4-3 lead and Max McDowell's sacrifice fly made it 5-3. Blake Davey and Bryan Daniello had two hits each for UConn.

    Road Racing

    Justin Vonhager of Westbrook won the Great Strides for Greak Neck 5K in a time of 19:27. Natalie Edwards of Gales Ferry was the women's winner, finishing in seventh-place with a time of 22:34.

    Rounding out the top 10 were Matt Labreque of Waterford (20:00), Tracy Montoya of Waterford (20:15), Av Florio (20:23), Matt Walker of East Lyme (21:01), Dylan Sullivan of Waterford (21:03), Steve Halewski of New London (22:34), Steve Dinsmore of East Lyme (22:47) and Waterford's Christine Lombardi (22:49).

    College sailing

    Connecticut College's coed team went 8-2 en route to winning the Staake Team Racing Regatta on the Thames River. The win earned the Camels a berth in the New England Team Racing Championship in April. Skippers Jordan Bothwick, Bryce Kopp and Hugh MacGillivray and crew Lea Bushnell, Kim Bolick and Tori Allen contributed to the win.

    Women's water polo

    Conn College ran its winning streak to 14 straight with a pair of wins. Conn (15-10) beat Macalester 10-3 and Utica 12-4. Isabelle Baneux, Kelsey Millward and Brianna Harrity each scored twice against Macalester and Emma Stephens had three goals against Utica.

    Men's tennis

    Conn College improved to 7-3 win a 9-0 win over Ithaca. Joshua Suneby, JC Cangelosi, Jonathan Kraiger, Jonathan Deeter, Daniel Maffa and Ben Sachs won singles matches for Conn.

    Women's tennis

    Conn College won all but one singles match en route to an 8-1 win over Ithaca. Aleksandra Drljaca, Charlotte Marcoux, Adrienne Sieverding, Emily White and Susanna Studwell picked up singles wins for Conn (7-6).
