    High school baseball roundup: Dewaine lifts Montville past Waterford for key ECC Medium Division win

    Waterford — Buddy Dewaine was the winning pitcher and homered as Montville beat Waterford 1-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division baseball game on Wednesday.

    Dewaine allowed two hits over 6 2-3 innings, struck out seven and got out of jams by picking two runners off base. He also homered in the top of the fourth inning. Montville (3-1, 1-0) in ranked 10th in the state poll. Connor Lewis pitched a three-hitter for Waterford (2-1, 0-1).

    In other games:

    • Cooper Robinson allowed one hit in six innings while striking out three and walking two in Fitch's 5-0 shutout of Ledyard in the ECC Large. Dan Mewha's two-run single highlighted a four-run fourth inning and Jon Barstow finished with three hits for the Falcons (2-1, 1-0). The Colonels fell to 3-1, 0-1.

    • Stevie Jankowski went 3-for-4, including a double, with two runs and two RBI to pace Plainfield to an 8-1 win over Stonington in the ECC Medium. Plainfield is 3-1, 1-0. John Moody went 2-for-2 for the Bears (3-1, 0-1).

    • Zach Lawrence went 3-for-3, including a triple, with three runs and three RBI as Bacon Academy used a 10-run second inning to rout East Lyme, 19-3, in the ECC Large. Hayden Couture had two hits, two runs and two RBI and Brendon Byam had a double and three RBI for the Bobcats (3-0, 1-0), which sent 16 batters to the plate in the second inning. Matt Spang had two hits and an RBI for the Vikings (2-1, 0-1).

    • Old Lyme's Chase Hackett had two hits and drove in two runs but the Wildcats lost to Cromwell 4-3 in a Shoreline Conference game. Cameron Dean-Frazier had two hits and Brett Hartmann doubled for Old Lyme (4-1).

    • Chris Munzer and Kevin Knowles each had a single and triple in Wheeler's 11-2 loss to Griswold in the ECC Small. The Lions fell to 2-1, 0-1.

    • Williams School lost to Marianapolis Prep in an SENE game, 7-0. Jake Parizo had two hits for Williams (1-1, 0-1).

    • Portsmouth Abbey scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to beat St. Thomas More 19-0. Destin Rodriguez's fourth-inning single was T-More's only hit.
