    H.S. lacrosse roundup: Pinto's game-winner lifts Fitch girls into state tournament

    Groton — Michelina Pinto scored the game-winning goal with 34 seconds remaining as the Fitch High School girls’ lacrosse team defeated Ledyard 14-13 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division game Tuesday on Fitch’s senior day.

    Pinto finished with four goals and five assists for Fitch (7-8, 5-4), which qualified for the Class M state tournament with the victory.

    Ledyard (8-6-1, 5-4) got out to a three-goal lead in the first half before Fitch came back with four unanswered goals for a 4-3 edge. Fitch led 9-6 at halftime.

    Ledyard tied the game with a minute left in the second half.

    Mae Sefransky added four goals, Vineela Kanagala and Molly Reinhold had two goals each and Maggie Adams had a season-high 14 saves in goal for Fitch. Ledyard’s Liz Austin and Brooke Scahill each had three goals and one assist, Ellie Phetteplace and Maddie Tilton each two goals and one assist and Gretchen Montgomery 12 saves.

    In other games:

    • Sydney Cowell scored eight goals and Sloane Sweitzer had five goals and three assists as Old Lyme beat Morgan 19-8 in a Shoreline Conference game. Hannah Guenther made 10 saves and Maggie Berger had three goals and two assists for Old Lyme (13-1, 8-1).

    • Waterford took a 10-2 halftime lead and went on to beat Montville 15-2 in the ECC Small Division. Leah Petrini and Ava Guthrie had three goals each, Lexi Lewis and Sarah Lamothe each scored twice and Kylie Sheehan had a goal and an assist for Waterford (12-3, 8-1). Alyssa Tuchetta and Ally Foster scored for Montville (3-11, 3-6).

    • Amanda Taylor contributed a goal and three assists, pacing East Lyme past Bacon Academy 16-5 in the ECC Large Division. Belle Kenny and Vanessa Vurno each had three goals, while Kendall Roberts and Steph deLaforcade had two goals apiece for the Vikings (11-4, 9-0). Bacon fell to 10-5, 5-4.

    • Hannah Johnson had four goals and two assists in Stonington's 18-7 win over Wheeler in the ECC Small Division. Stonington is 11-4, 7-1. Zoe Robert had four goals for Wheeler (1-12, 1-7).

    Boys

    • Mike Beltran scored four times, including his 100th career goal, while Billy Barrs and Logan Bowdish each had three goals in Waterford's 18-4 win over Montville in the ECC Small. The Lancers improved to 11-5, 6-2. Tyler Price had two goals and Pat Caron and Kyle Marsh each scored one for the Indians (2-12, 1-6).

    • Henry Hunt scored six goals and added an assist to power Old Lyme past Morgan 15-13 in the Shoreline Conference. Jake Fenton had five goals and Ryan Powers added two for the Wildcats (11-3). Morgan fell to 9-5.

    • Hand outscored East Lyme 7-1 in the second half, pulling away for a 13-6 win. Erik Aarsand scored three goals and had an assist, Ethan Opsahl scored twice and Zane Smallidge had two assists for East Lyme (10-4).

    • Kyle Ton scored six goals and had two assists and Logan Morin had four goals and five assists as Norwich Free Academy beat Woodstock 16-4 in the ECC Large Division. Ben Thompson had two goals and an assist, Nick Jacaruso had a goal and an assist and Javoni Reyes made six saves for NFA (8-6, 5-2).
