Local roundup: Unbeaten Granby beats Valley/OL football team
Deep River — Connor Field carried the ball 15 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns as Granby Memorial remained unbeaten with a 35-6 football victory over Valley Regional/Old Lyme on Friday night.
Dom Pagano also had a big rushing night for the Bears (5-0), carrying 21 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns in a game that was delayed for more than an hour by heavy rain and lightning.
Valley/OL (2-3), which had a two-game winning streak snapped, scored in the second quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Matt Sapere to Ernest Jean-Pierre.
In other games:
• After attempting to wait out rain and lightning delays over nearly two hours, a pair of games involving Eastern Connecticut Conference schools were postponed. The Montville at New London game will be played on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., while the Stonington at Waterford game will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m.
H.S. swimming
• East Lyme took a two-game lead in the ECC race with a 93-79 win over Fitch. Gretchen Stelter won a pair of events and was on two winning relay teams for the Vikings (9-1, 7-0) and teammates Emma Magna and Taylor Gray won two events each. Stelter won the 50-yard freestyle (27.30) and 100 freestyle (57.86), Magna won the 200 freestyle (2:05.25) and 100 backstroke (1:05.21) and Gray won the 200 individual medley (2:24.33) and 100 butterfly (1:05.54). Anneliese Lapides won and event and was on a winning relay team, Jasmine Bazinet and Alexis Dumais won events and Victoria Chen, Mary Kathryn Taylor and Kate Orefice were on winning relay teams for East Lyme. Kailyn Lambert, Paulomi Sardar, Lauren Roper and Kelcie Drury of Fitch (9-2, 6-2) won the 400 freestyle relay.
• Megan Pipech, Maddie Johanson and Olivia Strelevitz won two events each as Ledyard beat NFA 97-73 in an ECC meet. Pipech won the 200 freestyle (2:19.07) and 500 freestyle (6:19.58), Johanson won the 200 IM (2:30.75) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.78) and Strelevitz won the 100 butterfly (1:05.84) and 100 backstroke (1:07.02). Sydney Dudda also won an event for Ledyard (5-3, 5-3) and combined with Gaby Schaufler, Mariah Grim, Johanson, Pipech and Strelevitz to win two relays. Ciara McDonough won an event for NFA (3-6, 2-5) and combined with Madison Lacy, Macayla Schmidt and Jenilee Antonetty to win a relay.
H.S. volleyball
• Mae Sefransky had 23 assists and 10 aces as undefeated Fitch beat Bacon Academy 25-17, 25-11, 25-9 in the ECC Large Division match. Jen Severino had 12 kills and Caroline Parker had eight digs for Fitch (13-0, 5-0).
• Norwich Tech clinched at least a share of the Constitution State Conference title with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 win over Windham Tech. Madison Bodley had 11 kills, eight digs and five aces, Chloe Guzman had 19 assists and Rebekah Smith had 14 points for Norwich Tech (7-3, 6-0), which also clinched a berth in the CSC tournament.
• Grasso Tech beat Ellis Tech in a CSC match, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-21. Keila Lastraglio had eight digs, Kiera Sebastian had four kills and two aces, Patience Hamilton had three assists and five digs and Vanessa Parra had four digs for Grasso (3-8).
• Lyman Memorial beat Waterford 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23. Vanessa Kobyluck had 39 assists, Mikayla Shelburne had 18 kills and Jill Sykora had 23 digs for Waterford (8-4).
College field hockey
• Charlotte Veitner scored three goals and had two assists as No. 2 UConn beat Temple 8-0 in a Big East match. Anna Middendorf had two goals and an assist and Pippa Lewis had a goal and an assist for the Huskies (12-0, 2-0).
