    Local roundup: Khoury sparks Fitch past Bacon

    Groton — Hendrick Khoury had 21 points, five rebounds and five steals as Fitch rallied from a 12-point deficit after three quarters for a 48-45 win over Bacon Academy in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division boys' basketball game on Thursday night.

    Khoury made seven 3-pointers for Fitch (9-5, 4-2) and Eddie Volkerts came off the bench for score 13 points with seven rebounds and five assists.

    Jimmy Matos scored 20 points and Sean Kelly had 12 points for Bacon (10-4, 4-2), which beat Fitch 62-60 on Jan. 5 in Colchester. Ledyard leads the ECC Large Division at 4-1 and NFA is also in the mix at 3-2.

    In other games:

    • Bobby Atkins had 26 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead Stonington past Plainfield, 59-42, in the ECC Medium. Matt Schmeelk had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Stonington (7-7, 4-3) and Amadi White added 15 rebounds. Dylan Horn scored 13 for the Panthers.

    • Grasso Tech lost to Goodwin Tech in a Constitution State Conference game, 54-35. Osyrus Vazquez led Grasso Tech (3-13) with seven points.

    H.S. girls' basketball

    • Julie Jordan had nine points and nine rebounds and Madison Lorange scored 12 as Plainfield downed Stonington, 46-38, in the ECC Medium. Madison Kelley had 11 points for Plainfield. Taty LaFrance Boyce had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Bears (11-4, 4-4).

    • Kayla Wisniewski made the go-ahead basket with 18 seconds left as Griswold edged St. Bernard, 29-28, in the ECC Small. Caitlyn Dittman scored 12 for the Saints (8-8, 5-2).

    • Abby Poirier had 15 points and Emily Vincent scored 13 as Tourtellotte beat Wheeler, 44-39, in an ECC Small game. Emma Morgan had 15 points for the Lions (4-11, 1-6) and Lexi Galluci scored 10.

    • Wilcox Tech led 18-8 after one quarter and went on to beat Norwich Tech in a CSC game, 50-30. Shella Jeanty led Norwich Tech (2-16) with 12 points.

    • Mia Brennan had 22 points and five assists and Vanessa Kobyluck added 14 points and 10 rebounds as Waterford downed Wolcott on Wednesday night, 69-53. Claire Hurley and Kazi Walker both scored 10 for Waterford (13-3) and Kayla Jean-Pierre added nine points and nine rebounds.

    Women's basketball

    • Diamond Thomas came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points as Mitchell College beat Daniel Webster 74-60 in a New England Collegiate Conference game. Chelsea Newman had 15 points, Toshina Jessamy scored 14, Kate McCormack had six assists and Thomas had six rebounds and four assists for Mitchell (10-8, 9-4), which had a 16-0 run in the second half.

    • Conn College led 32-11 after one quarter and went on to beat Albertus Magnus in a nonleague game, 86-52. Mairead Hynes had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists, Liz Malman had 12 points and five assists, Payton Ouimette had eight rebounds and Willa McKinley and Jenna Lovett scored 11 each for Conn (16-4). 

    • Avery Point lost to No. 2 Roxbury Community College in an NJCAA Region 21 game, 90-54. Avery Point is 14-7, 7-4.

    Men's basketball

    • Omari Spellman scored 20 and had eight rebounds as St. Thomas More beat Orangeville Prep of Ontario, Canada, 71-67 in the National Prep School Invitational at Rhode Island College. Christian Vital had 10 points and six assists, Charlie Brown scored 12 and Julian Batts had six assists for T-More (22-2). 

    • Roxbury downed Avery Point, 83-63. Aaron Lorenzo had 15 points and 10 assists for the Pointers (2-21) and Julio Lopes, Tysheen McCrea and Willie Moore all scored 11.

    • Mitchell lost to Regis in a NECC game, 91-79. Domenico Santiago (12 rebounds) and Frank Martin scored 20 points each, Donavan McClean had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Parris Hill had 12 points and 11 rebounds. 

    H.S. hockey

    • Woodstock Academy beat the Eastern CT Eagles, 4-0. Woodstock outshot the Eagles (4-11) 49-14.
