    New London — Austin Read scored in the 62nd minute as Coast Guard Academy beat Western Connecticut 1-0 in a nonleague men's soccer match on Tuesday night.

    Patrick Palermo-Re assisted on the goal, which gave Coast Guard (3-1) its third straight win. Montville's Jake Sorenson made three saves to earn his second straight shutout.

    In other games:

    • Abdou Mbacke Thiam scored in the 30th minute as UConn beat Hofstra 1-0 in a nonleague game at Morrone Stadium. Munir Saleh assisted on the goal as the Huskies improved to 2-2-1. Senior goalie Scott Levene made two saves and his 57th consecutive start, moving past MLS star Andre Blake for second in program history.

    • Chris Lockwood, assisted by Liam Noonan, broke a 1-1 tie in the 61st minute and Connecticut College went on to defeat Salem State 4-1. Noonan's unassisted goal made it 3-1 less than five minutes later and he assisted on a goal by Jamie Martin in the 90th minute. Ben Highton, assisted by Lockwood, had given the Camels (3-0) a 1-0 lead early in the second half. A.J. Marcucci made six saves in goal for Conn, which held a 13-7 edge in shots.

    Volleyball

    • Clark won the fifth game 15-10 to earn a 3-2 win over Coast Guard in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Clark won 25-22 and 25-20 before Coast Guard tied the match with 25-18 and 25-21 wins. Freshman Bridget Boyle had 13 digs and 13 kills for Coast Guard (6-3), which had its four-match win streak snapped. Angelou Dunton had 11 kills and 16 digs and Alexi Deane and Emma Saunders had nine kills each for the Bears.

    • Katia Elisman had 37 assists and six digs to help lift unbeaten Conn College to a 3-1 victory over Salve Regina. After dropping the first game 25-23, the Camels (6-0) came back to win 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17. Sam Hunter added 18 kills and eight digs for Conn while Jenny Kellogg finished with 10 kills and 15 digs.

    Women's soccer

    • Freshman Kat Retz scored her team-leading second goal of the year while classmate Kylee Ballard had the assist as Coast Guard won its third straight, 1-0 over Salve Regina. Junior Rachel Boohar, who hasn't allowed a goal since the season opener, made a season-high 11 saves for the Bears (3-1).
