    Local roundup: Leindecker leads Pointers to a split

    Haverhill, Mass. — East Lyme's C.J. Leindecker pitched a one-hitter in the nightcap as the Avery Point baseball team won 4-2 to pick up a doubleheader split against Northern Essex Community College on Sunday.

    The Pointers (20-18) lost the opener 7-5. Leindecker (2-0) allowed one earned run and struck out seven with two walks over seven innings. Tom Caravetta had two hits in the seocnd game and Rob Sprafke's two-run single with two outs in the top of the fifth snapped a 2-2 tie. In the first game, Mike Corso had three hits, Avery Santos drove in two runs and Sprafke singled and homered.    

    In other games:

    • UConn lost to Memphis 3-2 in an American Athletic Conference game. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning due to lightning and rain. Bobby Melley singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in a run for UConn (24-19, 8-6).

    H.S. rowing

    • East Lyme competed in the 39th annual Quinsigamond Cup at Worcester, Mass. The Vikings finished second in the six-team race in the girls' first varsity race, finishing in 5:05.5 behind Simsbury (5:45.8). In East Lyme's boat were coxswain Bianca Barroga, stroke Julia Lefurge and Katie Long, Rasa Kervelevicius, Alexandra Stewart, Gretchen Stelter, Alison Christensen, Lauren Alexandrescu and Kristina Fenton. The girls' second boat was third. 

    East Lyme was fourth in the boys' first varsity race. The boat was coxswained by Sukriti Thomas with stroke Will Christensen, Benas Kervelevicius, Clayton Cushing, Daniel Rubio-Ejchel, Emerson Cole, Gaven Fennel, Nick Hahn, and Greg Stewart.

    College sailing

    • Conn College's coed team qualified for the Gill Sailing National Championship with an eighth-place finish at the 18-team New england Championship. They will compete in San Diego from May 31-June 3. Conn had 64 points with Roger Williams winning with 41. Bryce Kopp and Tori Allen were 11th in the A division with 37 points and Hugh McGillivray and Eliza Garry were sixth in the B division with 27 points. 

    Women's tennis

    • Connecticut College won four of the six singles matches en route to a 5-4 win over Ithaca. Emily Migilorini, Charlotte Marcoux, Angelica Warren and Susanna Studwell has straight-set wins for the Camels (11-10) and Angelica Warren and Mariah Warren teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles.

    Men's tennis

    • Conn College broke a nine-match losing streak with a 7-2 win over Hamilton in a NESCAC match on Saturday. Jonathan Kraiger, Charlie Williams, Daniel Maffa, Ben Sachs and Ethan Hecker won singles matches for Conn (4-14, 1-7).
