    Local roundup: Matson provides the firepower for Williams girls' lacrosse

    Waterford — Audrey Matson had five goals and four assists, powering the Williams School girls' lacrosse team past Marianapolis 17-8 in an SENE matchup.

    Beatrice Mills had four goals and an assist while Bella Griscom added three goals and Rachel Goldstein had two goals and two assists. Goalie Lindsey Noniewicz made 10 saves for Williams (7-2, 6-1).

    H.S. boys' lacrosse

    • Williams School lost to Hamden Hall 18-3. JJ Johnson had a goal and an assist, Noah Bavolack made 22 saves, Davis Burleson and Shannon Desmond had goals and Alec Potts had an assist for Williams.

    • Jaedon Brown scored four goals, leading Norwich Free Academy to an 18-3 win over Griswold on Tuesday. Logan Morin had two goals and five assists, Braydon Golas had three goals and Matt Kolashuk and Patrick Casady had two goals each for NFA (6-4).

    H.S. golf

    • Hunter Brazee had the low score for Grasso Tech, shooting a 51 in a loss to Windham Tech at Pequot Golf Course. Windham Tech won the team medal point 193-234. Patrick Morse was the medalist, firing a 42 for the winners.

    • NFA finished with a team medal point of 161 at Portland Golf Course, losing to Xavier, which had a 157. Noah Straub earned medalist honors with a one-over 36 for NFA (7-2), while Spencer Molkenthin had a 39 and Sean Gilot shot a 42. Xavier is 7-1-1.

    • Medalist Dylan Renshaw shot a 50 and Chris Feder-Craney had a 51, leading Norwich Tech past Putnam 222-237 at Connecticut National Golf Club. Norwich Tech is 2-6.

    • Jack Ognisty was the medalist with a 36, leading Stonington past Waterford 6.5-.5, in an ECC Medium tri-match at Great Neck Country Club. Glen Faber shot a team-low 39 for Waterford, which (7-4, 4-2), which beat New London 6-1. Jack Glenn fired a 39 for Stonington (7-0, 5-0).

    H.S. baseball

    • Andy Grant pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out 12, in NFA's 6-1 win over Fitch in ECC Large Division action Tuesday. Colby Jakan chipped in three hits and Caleb Bierman had two hits and an RBI for NFA. Ryan Tuohey had a sacrifice fly for Fitch.

    H.S. sailing

    • Williams School battled blustery winds and rain as well as a tough opponent in Choate Academy, winning the first race before dropping the next four in the best of five team match.

    Local golf

    • Black Hall Club assistant pro Adam Rainaud combined with Jack McConachie of North Ridge Golf Club to capture the season-opening Connecticut Section PGA Senior-Junior Blind Draw Pro-Pro Championship Tuesday at Lakes of Isles in North Stonington. They shot a 5-under 65, finishing with six birdies and winning by two strokes. Justin Scott of Pequot Golf Course and Jantzen Vargas of Hartford Golf Course tied for third with a 2-under 70.

    • Bill Hermanson of Black Hall Club and Dave Szewczul of Tunxis Plantation defended their Connecticut State Golf Association Two Man Team Championship, finishing with a 36-hole total of 5-under 137, on Monday at Black Hall in Old Lyme. They locked up a one-shot victory with a birdie on the final hole. Josh Cameron of Norwich and Chet Hrostek of Oxford Greens combined to place third at 3-under 139.
