Local roundup: Montville names Maneggia its new girls' volleyball coach

Montville — Peter Maneggia Jr., an accomplished coach at both the high school and collegiate level, is the new girls' volleyball coach at Montville High School, athletic director Phil Orbe announced Tuesday.

Maneggia replaces Kate Spina, who guided the program to three state tournament berths in her four seasons.

Maneggia was an assistant women's volleyball coach at Trinity College the past two seasons after spending three years as the head coach at Eastern Connecticut State University (2011-2013), where he went 54-38 and guided the Warriors to the NCAA Division III tournament in 2013, their first since 2007.

He is also the head coach of the South Windsor boys' volleyball program in the spring and led the Bobcats to the Class M state title in June. He is 36-13 overall in two seasons at South Windsor.

"Coach Maneggia has a wealth of knowledge and experience coaching the sport of volleyball on the high school, club and collegiate levels," Orbe said in a statement released by the school. "He has an established track record of success, dedication and commitment to the development of volleyball student-athletes throughout his coaching career. He will certainly continue to build a program that has a strong foundation built by Coach Spina."
