    Local roundup: Conn men edge ECSU 83-81 in OT

    Willimantic — Zuri Pavlin nailed a 3-pointer with nine seconds left in overtime to lift Connecticut College to an 83-81 non-conference men's basketball victory over Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday night.

    ECSU (1-3) forced the OT when Tarchee Brown made three free throws with five seconds left in regulation.

    Tyler Rowe led the Camels (3-0) with 17 points and seven rebounds while Janel Daniel and Isaiah Robinson added 16 points apiece and Lee Messier had 15.

    In other games:

    • Rodney Morton's basketball at the buzzer gave Salve Regina an 84-82 win over Coast Guard Academy in Newport, R.I. Micah Baldez scored a career-high 27 points for the Bears (2-2) on 9 of 13 shooting and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals. He tied the game at 82-82 with a layup with eight seconds remaining. Freshman Pat Witkowski added 23 points for Coast Guard.

    Women's basketball

    • Mairead Hynes had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead Conn College past Western Connecticut 70-65 in a non-conference game. Payton Ouimette added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Camels while Liz Malman finished with 13 points.

    • UConn-Avery Point won its third straight game with a 101-40 win over Holyoke Community College in a Region 21 game. Tatyana LaFrance-Boyce had 27 points and eight rebounds for the Pointers (3-3, 2-1) while Meagn Bianchi added 14 points, 16 assists and nine steals, Taleeha Green had 21 points and 19 rebounds and Summer Mills had 23 points and 11 rebounds.

    Men's hockey

    • J.D. Dudek scored three goals and Ryan Fitzgerald added a goal and two assists as No. 3 Boston College defeated UConn 5-2 in a Hockey East game at the XL Center in Hartford. Max Kalter and Miles Gendron scored for the Huskies (4-5-5, 2-3-1). The Eagles are 11-3-1, 6-0-1.

    Girls' soccer

    • Keelin Hurtt and Jenna Peduzzi of Class S state champion Old Lyme were two of 10 local players named to the Connecticut Girls' Soccer Coaches' Association all-state teams. Hurtt and Peduzzi were joined on the Class S team by St. Bernard's Kara Bassett and Mia Londregan, and Wheeler's Emma Morgan.

    Eastern Connecticut Conference tournament champion East Lyme had two players make the Class L team — Stephanie deLafrocade and Mackenzie Northcutt — while Montville's Rachel Marchini made the Class M team along with Waterford's Mia Brennan and Jacklyn Lavoie.

    Boys' soccer

    • The ECC was well-represented in the recent Connecticut Soccer Coaches' Association Senior Bowl all-star games, which were held on Sunday at Middletown. Local ECC players selected to participate were East Lyme's Anthony Abromov and Zach Vandale, Fitch's Meshama Charles, Montville's Lucas Chaude and Noah Cook, NFA's David Hernandez, Stonington's Joey Rosa and Waterford's Dan Castelpoggi, Stephen Lavoie and Cory Conderino. Also playing were Old Lyme's Danny Cole, Graham Aird and Danny Reid, while Fitch's Jason Wolfradt served as one of the coaches.

    College honors

    • Trinity College's Jeff Devanney, an East Lyme graduate, was named New England Small College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the third time after guiding the Bantams to an 8-0 season and the NESCAC title. Devanney was also honored in 2008 and 2012. Trinity average a league-best 38.1 points per game and forced a league-high 23 turnovers.

    • Conn College goalie Katherine Chester was named NESCAC Player of the Week. It was the third time the senior has been honored in her career. She stopped 30 shots to post her ninth career shutout in a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Amherst on Friday, then stopped 33 of 34 shots in a 3-1 win over the Amherst again the following day. The two wins allowed Conn to jump into the D3Hockey.com national poll at No. 8.
