Local roundup: Conn women rout Bates 87-69
New London — Kyle Caouette scored 22 points as Connecticut College beat Bates College 87-69 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Friday night.
Mairead Hynes had 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists and freshman Sami Ashton had 13 points and six assists for the Camels (11-5, 2-3), who host Tufts on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Men's basketball
• Tyler Rowe had 19 points as Conn College beat Bates 73-58 in a NESCAC game. Zuri Pavlin had eight points and nine rebounds, putting him over the 1,000-point mark for his career, David Labossiere had 16 points and Lee Messier came off the bench for 17 points and seven rebounds for Conn (11-5, 2-3).
Women's hockey
• Stephanie Izzi had a goal and an assist as Conn College beat Williams College 3-0 in a NESCAC match. Julie Beattie and Kylie Wilkes had goals, Katherine Chester made 30 saves and Samantha Estes, Jordan Cross and Kate Kohl had assists for Conn (9-4-2, 6-3).
Men's hockey
• Vermont took a 3-0 lead and held on to beat UConn 5-4 in a Hockey East match. Tage Thompson scored twice and Karl El-Mir and Maxim Letunov had a goal and an assist each for UConn (9-8-6, 5-4-2).
• Conn College blew a 4-0 lead, settling for a 4-4 tie with Wesleyan in a NESCAC match. Jeff Thompson, Jacob Moreau, Mason Evans and Brian Belisle scored goals and Rory Garlasco and Joe Giordano had assists for Conn (3-9-1, 1-6-1).
Boys' indoor track
• Fitch's 4x400-meter relay team finished sixth at the Yale Invitational in New Haven. Julius Brown, Tom Readett, Matt Kerst and Alex Schwindt were timed in 3:39.43.
Girls' indoor track
• Fitch's 4x200-meter relay team set a school record while placing seventh at the Yale Invitational. Madison Powe, Abby Rogers, Lily Johnson and Denis Strong were timed in 1:50.72.
H.S. gymnastics
• Old Lyme's Britney Detuzzi and Maria Denya finished 1-2 in the all-around during a quad meet won by Woodstock Academy with 142.75 points. Old Lyme finished second with a season-best 133.2 followed by East Lyme/Waterford (124.4) and Killingly (85.25). Detuzzi finished with a 34.45 all-around total and Denya was at 33.6.
