Local roundup: Huskies add graduate transfer Onuorah

Storrs — UConn's men's basketball team filled a need in the frontcourt with the addition of graduate transfer David Onuorah.

A 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward from Lithonia, Ga., Onuorah graduated from Cornell where he played three seasons and sat out his senior year after suffering an injury in the first game.

He visited Storrs last week and made his decision on Tuesday.

Onuorah is a former Cornell teammate of Shonn Miller, who played one season as a graduate transfer (2015-16) for the Huskies.

In 87 career games, Onuorah averaged 3.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. He had his best season in 2015-16, contributing 5.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while starting 28 games.

It's been a busy off-season for the UConn coaching staff.

They've been forced to rebuild the roster after frontcourt players Steven Enoch, Juwan Durham and Vance Jackson decided to transfer. They also lost starters Rodney Purvis, Amida Brimah and Kentan Facey, who graduated this spring.

Other players set to join the program this fall include junior college transfer Eric Cobb, graduate transfer Antwoine Anderson, who played at Fordham, as well as forwards Isaiah Whaley, Josh Carlton and Tyler Polley.
