    Local roundup: Niantic Legion completes sweep

    Thompson — Niantic completed a three-game sweep of TriTown in American Legion baseball Zone 6 play with a 4-0 win on Sunday.

    Ryan Kane pitched 6.2 innings of shutout ball before being removed due to pitch count. He allowed four hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Chris Malcom and Bennett Coe had two-run doubles for Niantic (5-0).

    Niantic swept TriTown in a doubleheader on Saturday, winning the opener 2-1 and the second game 1-0 in 10 innings. Trevor Delesdernier pitched a one-hitter in the opener, allowing an unearned run with six strikeouts and no walks. Matt Malcom had two hits, including an RBI single. Matt Malcom also scored the winning run in the nightcap, coming around on Delesdernier's single.

    • Collin Bakken pitched a four-hitter as Waterford beat Ledyard/Pawcatuck 2-1. Bakken struck out seven with one walk. Justin Keating singled and scored a run and Bakken drove in a run for Waterford (6-0).   

    Matt Driscoll pitched a no-hitter in the second game as Waterford swept a doubleheader from Ledyard/Pawcatuck on Saturday night, winning both games 8-0. Driscoll struck out eight and teammate Bobby Silva pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the first game. Tyler Yeomans had five hits, including two doubles, for Waterford and Alex Petchark had two hits in the first game and scored three times in the second game.

    • Monty Johnson led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double and came around to score the game-winning run as New London beat Danielson 3-2. Johnson, who reached third on an overthrow, scored on a sacrifice fly by Bo Rodriguez. Robert Parra pitched a five-hitter for the win, striking out six with no walks. Elijah Martinez had two hits and Johnson had two hits and scored twice for New London (9-0). 

    District 10 softball (11-12)

    • Anna Dziecinny pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Waterford beat Ledyard 5-0. Maddie Burrows had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run, Abby Maynard drove in a run and Dziecinny had two hits and two RBI for Waterford. Aaliyah Amidon pitched a complete game for Ledyard.

    • Emma Spathakis was 4-for-4 as Pawcatuck beat New London 16-6. Winning pitcher Carli LoPresto struck out five and also had two hits.
