Trumbull — Chris DeLucia of the Norwich Golf Course is tied for ninth during the opening round of medal play in the 115th Connecticut Amateur Championship on Monday at Tashua Knolls Golf Course.

Play was suspended for the day due to rain and lightning at 5:35 p.m. and will resume Tuesday morning at 7. The second round will follow, with the top 32 finishers qualifying for the match-play portion of the tournament beginning Wednesday.

Among those left on the course was Bill Hermanson of Black Hall Club in Old Lyme. He was at even-par through nine holes.

DeLucia finished with a 1-under 71 and is in solid position to advance to match play. The leader when play was suspended was Nick Cook of the host club, who fired a 6-under 66.

Two other local golfers completed their round and are tied for 28th at 2-over 74 — Steve Chevalier of Lake of Isles and Rob Neaton of Black Hall.

Local baseball

• Games involving the Connecticut Tigers and Mystic Schooners were postponed on Monday due to rain and the threat of lightning. The Tigers, set to make their 2017 New York-Penn League debut, had their season opener against Tri-City at Dodd Stadium postponed. It will be made up as part of a single admission doubleheader on Wednesday, June 28. The teams will now open on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a fireworks show, originally scheduled for Monday, to follow the game.

The Schooners, meanwhile, had their New England Collegiate Baseball League game against Ocean State at Fitch High School postponed until Monday, June 26, as part of a 4 p.m. doubleheader.

American Legion Zone 6

• New London and Danielson battled to a scoreless tie before darkness suspended play after 10 innings in Danielson. The game will be completed on July 10 at 5 p.m. prior to a regularly-scheduled game. New London's Trevor Bolduc allowed only two hits over 9.1 innings with no walks and eight strikeouts before Hendrik Khoury retired two batters in the 10th. Danielson's Ethan Preston allowed two hits over eighth innings.

District 10 softball (11-12)

• Waterford defeated New London 20-0 in 3 1/2 innings as Maddie Burrows and Milena Walker combined for the pitching win.

• Ledyard defeated Lyme/Old Lyme 12-4 as Samantha Money was the winning pitcher and Aaliyah Amidon, Samantha Marcotte, Ashley Meyer and Jennifer Towne each had a hit and run scored. Jamie Bucior and Maddie Hubbard each had a hit and run for Lyme/Old Lyme.

• Groton/Mystic defeated Pawcatuck 14-2 as winning pitcher Charlotte Cabral pitched a two-hitter. She also had three hits along with Sydney Lyon and Grace Jenkins. Carli LoPresto and Olivia Haberek each had a hit for Pawcatuck.
