Local roundup: Waterford 14s ousted from NE Babe Ruth tourney
Trumbull — Waterford's bid to win the New England Babe Ruth 14-year-old baseball tournament ended Tuesday morning with a 7-3 loss to Keene (N.H.) in the quarterfinals.
Waterford, the District 6 and Connecticut champions, went 2-2 in the tournament. Ryan Bakken singled, doubled and scored a run, Ryan O'Connell doubled and Ben Jerome and Robert Zawacki scored runs for Waterford.

• Cody Jones won his fifth straight start as the Panera Pirates beat the Three Rivers Sonics 9-0 in the Eastern Connecticut Major League. Jones struck out 12, walked one and hit a batter. Brian McGugan doubled, singled, drove in two runs and scored three times for the Pirates. Tony LaLima doubled and drove in a run and Eric Sommers had two hits and two RBI for the Pirates.
SEC 16-18 playoffs
• Mitchell Clapsadle pitched a six-hitter as Waterford Blue advanced to the championship round with an 8-1 win over East Lyme Black. Derek Jones singled, doubled and drove in three runs and Tyler Howser and Noah Speller had doubles for Waterford. Kyle McDonald had a single and a double, Corey Levesque doubled and Justin O'Leary had two hits for East Lyme.
• Kyle Ayers pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts as East Lyme White beat Waterford Red 3-1 is a losers' bracket game. Jackson Deweese singled and scored a run and ayers had two hits for East Lyme. Glen Faber of Waterford struck out seven over four innings.
Sutera tournament (11-12)
• Mystic beat Salem/Bozrah 7-1 in a semifinal on Sunday. Winning pitcher Dylan Meyer struck out eight. Luke Noreika and Joey Basso each had a double and a homer, Tucker Tevepaugh tripled and Jackson LaLima, Sean Porter and Jose Rodriguez had doubles for Mystic.
• East Lyme advanced to Thursday's final with a 10-0 win over Ledyard in a mercy-rule game on Sunday. Owen Elmer pitched a one-hitter for the win and Gavin O'Brien had three hits for East Lyme.
Sutera tournament (9-10)
• Groton beat Salem/Bozrah 31-1 on Sunday. Winning pitcher Dominick Zuliani struck out five, Jaxyn Beaudet singled and tripled and Eammon Pelletier doubled for Groton. Shane Lemay had the only hit for Samel/Bozrah.
