    Local roundup: Mitchell men earn double overtime win

    New Haven — Andrew Storton scored his second goal at 106 minutes, 17 seconds to give the Mitchell College men’s soccer team a 2-1 double-overtime win over Albertus Magnus on Tuesday.

    Jarron Walter assisted on the first goal for the Mariners (1-3-1) and Seth Strader had three saves.

    Kervin Franco scored for Albertus (3-3).

    College volleyball

    • Sophomore Angelou Dunton had a match-high 16 kills to go with eight digs, leading Coast Guard Academy to a 3-1 win over Mount Holyoke in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. The Bears won by game scores of 25-13, 25-23, 24-26, 25-14 to improve to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Mount Holyoke is 4-4, 0-3. Bridget Boyle hit a team-high .407 and added 14 kills while Alexi Deane finished with 10 kills for Coast Guard. Makenna Martin had a match-high 27 assists and six aces for the Bears and Michelle McGill led the way with seven digs to go with four aces in the win.

    Boys' soccer

    • Amaya Cesar scored both goals as New London picked up its first win, beating Fitch 2-1 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I matchup. The Whalers are 1-3, 1-2, while Fitch fell to 2-2-1, 1-1.

    • Jacopo Ambrosetti scored twice as Woodstock Academy beat Waterford 2-1 in an ECC Division II game. The Lancers (1-2, 1-1) scored on an own goal.

    • Drew Archer scored twice as Lyman Memorial downed St. Bernard 7-0 in an ECC Division III game. Martin Arvidson had 12 saves for St. Bernard (0-4, 0-3).

    • Chad Kramer scored two goals as Ellis Tech defeated Grasso Tech 4-1 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Kevin Duarte scored for Grasso (1-2) in the 76th minute and goalie Joel Potter made 16 saves.

    • Windham Tech took charge early, building a 4-0 halftime lead and cruising past Norwich Tech 6-1 in the CTC. Evan Socha scored the lone goal for Norwich Tech.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Molly Quiles had two goals to lead Waterford past Woodstock 4-0 in an ECC Division II game. Kaylee Wilcox and Cassidy Susi also scored for the Lancers (3-1, 2-1).

    Boys' cross country

    • St. Bernard was swept by Lyman Memorial (16-47) and Plainfield (26-29) in an ECC Division III meet at home. Sam Davis led the Saints (0-3, 0-3) by placing sixth overall in 18:41 while Graham McCauley was 10th in 20:17.

    Girls' cross country

    • Christina McCaffery won individual honors as St. Bernard earned a 15-50 forfeit win over Lyman Memorial in an ECC Division III meet. Lyman did not have enough runners to field a team. McCaffrey won in 22:14 for the Saints (2-0, 2-0) while Serena Britner was third (23:03), Claudia Pascual fifth (26:11), Hope Geise sixth (27:04) and Emily Hart ninth (32:23).

    H.S. swimming

    • Staples won every event en route to a 116-69 nonconference win over East Lyme, handing the Vikings (3-1) their first loss. Staples finished third in last year's Class LL state meet and fifth in the State Open. Taylor Gray had a pair of seconds for East Lyme in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

    • Fitch remained unbeaten with a 92-56 win over Lyman/Windham in the ECC. Paulomi Sardar (50-yard freestyle, 100 free) and Sydney Crawford (200 IM, 100 backstroke) won two individual events apiece for the Falcons (3-0, 3-0).

    • Freshman Ella Dyjak won two individual events and was part of a pair of winning relay teams to highlight Waterford's 88-81 win over Ledyard in the ECC. Dyjak won the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free for the Lancers (2-2, 2-2) while Olivia Strelevitz captured the 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the Colonels (1-3, 1-3) and Maddie Johanson won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
