    Local roundup: Waterford boys, Stonington girls earn ECC D-II lacrosse titles

    Montville — Waterford clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' lacrosse championship with a 14-2 win over Montville on Saturday.

    The Lancers completed a perfect 5-0 run through the division and ended the regular season 13-3.

    Michael LaForte had five goals and three assists for Waterford while Caleb Holdridge finished with nine assists. Mason LaForte and Logan Bowdish added three goals apiece for the Lancers and Cooper Holloway made seven saves.

    Sam Kury and Matt Elwell each scored a goal for the Indians (7-9, 3-3) while goalie Tim Leitzinger stopped eight shots.

    In other games:

    • Pat Brady and Scott Pion had five goals and four assists apiece as St. Bernard/Wheeler outlasted Stonington 16-12 in an ECC Division II game. Roland Long added four goals and an assist for the Saints (13-3, 4-2) while Jack O'Leary had one goal and one assist, Emmett Brady had two assists and Zack Spiers scored a goal. Jake Mueller had three goals and two assists for the Bears (7-8, 3-3) while Lucian Kronholm had two goals and one assist, Max Mueller and Marco Tedeschi scored two goals apiece, and Sean Peglow and Aaron Lahah had one goal and two assists each.

    H.S. girls' lacrosse

    • Stonington earned its piece of the ECC Division II title with a 15-3 win over St. Bernard. The Bears (12-4, 5-1) share the championship with Bacon Academy and Woodstock Academy. Hannah Lamb scored four goals to lead Stonington while Kate Johnson had three goals and one assist, Emma Sabbadini two goals and two assists, Olivia Feliciano two goals and one assist, Hannah Pratt two goals, Cat Cassata one goal and three assists and Lexi Woviotis one goal and one assit. Mia Londregan scored twice for the Saints (5-10, 1-5) while Bridget Feeley had a goal and an assist.

    • Emilie Wilkinson scored four goals as North Branford won the Shoreline Conference regular season title by edging Old Lyme 7-6. The Wildcats (10-6), whose only two conference losses came against the T-Birds (14-2 overall), will be the second seed in the upcoming Shoreline tournament. Lydia Tinnerello scored two goals for Old Lyme, goalie Emily Erne made 14 saves, and Amanda Murphy, Bianca Tinnerello, Catherin Harrison and Daisy Colvin each added a goal.

    H.S. baseball

    • East Lyme defeated Montville 6-5 in eight innings on Friday night as Trystan Levesque was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Jacob Diaz drove in two runs and Blake Brigaw earned the win by allowing only five hits and one run over 5.2 innings of relief. Doug Delacruz went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for the Indians while Colby Miner had two hits and two RBI and Nick Calash was 2-for-3.

    H.S. girls' tennis

    • Stonington dominates the seeding for the upcoming ECC tournament, which will be hosted by the Bears beginning on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Two-time defending champion Gabby Dellacono of Stonington and teammate Charlotte Johnstone, the 2017 runnerup, are seeded 1-2 in singles as are the Bears' doubles teams of Margot Goodman-Ainsley Johnstone (No. 1) and Phoebe Townsend-Brielle Fratoni-Jaskiewicz (No. 2). The first two rounds will be held on Tuesday followed by the quarterfinals and semifinals on Wednesday on 3 p.m. and the championship matches on Thursday, also at 3.

    College outdoor track

    • Three Connecticut College athletes were selected to compete in the NCAA Division III Championship beginning Thursday in La Crosse, Wisc. Distance stars Scott Mason and Danny Aschale will represent the men and thrower Koko Mensah will represent the women. Mason will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second straight year (he was an All-American last year) with a qualifying time of 90:04.06 while Aschale qualified in the 5,000 (14:31.31). Mensah, meanwhile, qualified as the No. 11 seed in the shot put with with a throw of 45 feet, 8.5 inches.
