    Local roundup: CGA volleyball team sweeps rival Conn 3-0

    New London — Freshman Amanda Dake had a match-high 13 kills as Coast Guard Academy rolled to a 3-0 victory over neighbor Connecticut College in a volleyball match on Thursday night.

    Game scores were 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20 as the Bears (17-8) won their third straight on the same day the moved into the New England Division III rankings in the No. 10 spot. Conn is 8-12.

    Angelou Dunton added 11 kills and eight digs while Bridget Boyle had nine kills and Makenna Martin had a match-high 40 assists

    Emma Hewlin led the Camels with 11 kills while freshman Avery Light added 10 kills.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Unbeaten Woodstock Academy, ranked No. 1 in the state, wrapped up the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I title with a 25-15, 25-18 and 25-22 win over East Lyme. The loss ended a 14-match winning streak for the Vikings (14-2, 4-2). Both losses have come against the Centaurs. Sydney Iannantuono had 11 kills and seven digs for East Lyme while Mya Delesdernier had 10 kills.

    • Grasso Tech won the first game 25-23 but then lost 25-18, 25-21 and 25-21 to Cheney Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Michelle Warren had eight service points and 28 digs for Grasso while Samarie Delgado added six kills and 24 digs.

    H.S. football

    • Thames River has received a forfeit victory over Prince Tech after Prince Tech officials decided to discipline the program for its part in a postgame fight that occurred following last week's game against Cheney Tech. The teams were schedule to play on Saturday.

    "It was because of some unsportsmanlike behavior," Prince Tech principal Daniel Mello told GameTimeCT.com of the decision. "There was more-or-less some pushing and shoving in the postgame line... which are things we don't expect from our student athletes at Prince Tech. We decided this was the best possible action."

    Thames River improves to 4-1 and will play its next game on Saturday, Oct. 27, against Bullard-Havens.

    H.S. boys' soccer

    • Waterford won its annual ALS Cup game against East Lyme, defeating the Vikings 4-2 in a penalty kick shootout after the teams played to a scoreless tie through regulation and pair of sudden death overtimes. The match will go down as a draw for both teams. Waterford (4-9-1) made its first four penalty kicks to win the Cup. Waterford goalie A.J. Sachatello made eight saves, including a pair in the shootout, while Suneal Lall stopped seven shots for East Lyme (11-3-1).

    • Sam Montalto scored a pair of goals as Stonington cruised to a 4-0 victory over Bacon Academy. Tyler Fidrych added a goal and an assist, Jamison Magowan had two assists, Ethan Allen scored a goal and Cooper Wall added an assist for the Bears (14-1).

    • Ian Kamperschroer had a goal and an assist as Ledyard rallied to defeat Fitch 2-1. After Ron Adams had given the Falcons (6-9-1) a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute, Kamperschroer set up Nick Washington with the tying goal in the 65th minute before scoring the game-winner less than five minutes later. Ken Turner made 10 saves for the Colonels (11-4) and Ramiro Zavala stopped nine shots for Fitch.

    • Jonah Person scored a pair of first-half goals to lead Lyman Memorial to a 3-0 win over Wheeler in a matchup of ECC divisional winners. Lyman won the Division III title while the Lions (10-5) captured the Division IV crown. Bowen Baker made eight saves in goal for Wheeler, which was outshot 13-9.

    • Goodwin Tech scored all of its goals during a four-minute span of the first half en route to a 3-0 win over Norwich Tech in the CTC.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Zoe Pearse's goal with 5:21 remaining in the first half lifted Fitch/Ledyard to a 1-0 victory over Woodstock in the ECC. Ella Bergendahl had the assist for the Falcons (7-7, 5-5) and goalie Hailie Kesterson made seven saves for the shutout.
