    Black Wolves lose opener to Georgia 16-12

    Duluth, Ga. — Tyler Digby and Reilly O'Connor each had five points with a hat trick and two assists apiece, but the New England Black Wolves were beaten by the Georgia Swarm 16-12 on Saturday night in their National Lacrosse League season opener.

    Callum Crawford added two goals and four assists for the Black Wolves.

    Georgia opened up the scoring with two goals in the first six minutes of play, but Digby picked up his first goal as a member of the Black Wolves with 9:33 left in the quarter and followed it up with his second just over a minute later to tie the score on a 5-on-3 advantage.

    Seth Oakes picked up his first goal of the night with 1:20 remaining in the frame to give New England a one goal advantage, 3-2, to close out the first.

    The Swarm, however, scored four consecutive goals, including two by Miles Thompson, in the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead into halftime and never trailed again, scoring four straight goals after New England close to within 7-5 to open an 11-5 lead.

    In addition to his two goals, Oakes also had three assists in the loss for New England. Stephan LeBlanc and Kevin Buchanan added three assists apiece for the for the Black Wolves while goalie Doug Jamieson had 44 saves on 59 shots.

    Lyle Thompson, Holden Cattoni and Randy Staats each had seven points on two goals and five assists each Georgia, and goalie Mike Poulin had 38 saves.
