Parking bans scheduled in New London, Groton City in anticipation of snow
Another round of wintry weather expected to descend on the region late Wednesday has some municipalities enacting parking bans.
The City of Groton’s parking ban on all city streets starts at 11 p.m. Wednesday. The ban will stay in effect until noon on Friday. Parking is available at the Groton Heights School, the Municipal Parking Lot at 2 Latham St., Eastern Point Beach and Washington Park.
New London’s winter parking restrictions will go into effect at midnight tonight. The restrictions include a downtown parking ban. Elsewhere in the city, parking is allowed only on the even side of the street except on narrow one-way streets with odd-side parking. Parking for New London residents will be free in the Water Street parking garage.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for New London County starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday and ending at 7 p.m. Thursday. The forecast calls for precipitation to start late Wednesday as rain and sleet before a changeover to all snow by early Thursday morning. A total of 2 to 5 inches is expected before the snow tapers off late Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
