Millstone receives honor at Three Rivers Community College

Norwich — Millstone Station was honored Friday at TRC Foundation’s Annual Breakfast at the Three Rivers Community College.

Kevin Hennessy, director of federal, state and local affairs for Millstone owner Dominion Resources, received the award on behalf of the company, the college said in a news release.

Dominion provides 16 full-tuition scholarships for the nuclear engineering technology degree program for Three Rivers students.

Scholarships cover the full cost of tuition, books and fees for a two-year associate degree in the program. Students receive a monthly stipend during the nine-month academic year and have a 12-week paid internship/co-op experience at the Millstone Power Station.

Dominion’s support allows Three Rivers to be a leading provider of training and education for its nuclear engineering students, the college said.

The rigorous nuclear engineering technology program at Three Rivers, led by Prof. Jim Sherrard, not only serves as a pipeline to meet local and regional needs but is what makes the program one of the best in the country, according to the college.

Ryan Gerrity, a Dominion/Millstone scholarship recipient, spoke about his experience at Three Rivers and also provided a tour of the college’s new glass-top nuclear simulator.
