Old Lyme to discuss what to do following residents' vote against WPCA appropriation

Old Lyme — The boards of selectmen and finance are expected to discuss later this month what to do, after residents voted down an appropriation to cover the completion of a wastewater management study for the town's shoreline area.

The topic will likely be on the agenda for the Board of Finance's meeting at 7:30 p.m. June 16 at Town Hall.

The up to $148,000 appropriation, rejected by residents last month, would have paid for expenses associated with the completion of a Water Pollution Control Authority study by consultants Woodard and Curran. The costs include expenses already billed by the consultants.

At Monday's Board of Selectmen meeting, First Selectwoman Bonnie Reemsnyder said she has informed the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection that she cannot direct the consultants to complete the study. She has also discussed the issue with the town attorney.

The selectmen expect that a town meeting could be held in the future to outline options to residents.
