Police locate meth lab in Pawcatuck

Stonington — Police on Wednesday identified and located a methamphetamine lab that had been set up in a storage unit at Wes-Stor Mini Storage in Pawcatuck.

After receiving information from Westerly Police detectives, Stonington detectives continued the investigation and were able to locate the unit on Elmata Avenue off Route 49.

According to Capt. Todd Olson, police contacted the state police Statewide Narcotics Task Force detective unit because of its special training in dealing with the potentially volatile chemicals and equipment used in a meth lab.

With the assistance of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Pawcatuck Fire Department, the storage unit was inspected to ensure there was no immediate threat to public safety.

Olson said police obtained a search warrant for the unit and found several items such as tools, equipment and chemicals related to the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Olson commended the “Stonington, Westerly and State Police Detectives for conducting seamless investigations that produce outcomes like this that truly protect public safety.”

The case remains under investigation as police seek to locate the person who set up the meth lab. No arrests have yet been made.
