Large, empty bird's nest causes power outage in Noank
Noank — A large, empty osprey nest that caught fire early Monday afternoon caused a power outage initially affecting more than 900 Eversource customers, according to Mitch Gross, a spokesman for the company.
Gross said that the fire burnt and damaged electrical wires, and that the company would be bringing in a generator to supply power to the remaining 350 customers affected by the outage. The company was coordinating with the Noank Fire Department to determine a location for the generator and was working to restore power to all customers this evening.
The outage was first reported around 11:25 a.m. Monday, Gross said. By 4:30 p.m. Monday, 350 customers remained without power. The outage happened near Amtrak lines so Eversource was coordinating with Amtrak officials to make repairs to the lines. Those repairs would be made very late Monday evening, Gross said.
