Lemonade, bake sale Thursday for Oswegatchie School Garden

Waterford — A 10-year-old and her friends are holding a lemonade and bake sale Thursday afternoon until 6 p.m. to raise money for the garden at Oswegatchie School, which was vandalized last week, according to the garden's Facebook page.

The sale will take place across the street from 55 Yorkshire Drive.

Skylar Neidig has been involved in the garden since it was established two years ago, according to her mother, Pam, who said her daughter and fellow garden club members are "very angry that someone would do this after all of their hard work."

A July 25 post on the garden's Facebook page says: "It's pretty sad to think that someone would carelessly vandalize a school garden, but that's what we found when we went to water today. Apparently sometime Friday or this morning someone thought it would be fun to jump the fence, pull out flowers and throw them all over the beds, throw bricks into the beds, pull out stakes, walk through the beds and break plants, pull corn off the stalks, pick the largest tomatoes and throw them around the garden, kick over the memorial stone and pull the covers off the kale that we were trying to save the seed from (needless to say the seed from that plant is now a total loss). We have countless hours into this project, and the kids and volunteers have worked hard to make this garden what it is. It's extremely disheartening to think that someone would do this."
