Red Cross helps Groton family after fire damages apartment
Groton — The American Red Cross said it is assisting a family whose apartment at 22 Mather Ave. was damaged in a fire today.
The apartment has been deemed uninhabitable, following a fire this afternoon that originated in the kitchen, said Groton City Deputy Fire Chief Robert Tompkins.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
The call came in at approximately 2:15 p.m. and firefighters brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, said Tompkins. Firefighters remained on the scene Tuesday afternoon to investigate.
The Red Cross is helping the family of four — two adults and two children — with food, clothing and personal care items, according to a news release.
There were no injuries and the fire did not spread to other units, according to Tompkins.
