Groton man accused of multiple robberies faces new charges

New London — New London police on Thursday served a warrant for first-degree robbery and other charges against a Groton man arrested in April after a string of robberies that frightened area convenience store clerks.

Timothy J. Foye, 26, of 130 Michigan Drive, Groton, had confessed to committing at least four convenience store robberies, one attempted robbery and a bank robbery, according to police.

On Thursday, New London police served a warrant charging Foye with first-degree robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon and breach of peace.

Police declined to provide additional information about the warrant, such as where and when the robbery occurred.

Convenience store clerks became watchful after robberies that started April 2 at the Henny Penny on Route 12 in Groton.

Two days later there was an attempted robbery at a Sunoco gas station in New London and a robbery at the Henny Penny at 2 Roosevelt Ave. in Mystic. Another robbery occurred April 6 at the Henny Penny on Route 12 in Gales Ferry.

The suspect displayed a gun at least three times. Foye later told police he bought an airsoft pellet gun and was bringing it with him at first, but then he stopped because he didn’t have to show the gun to get clerks to give him money.

Groton Town Police charged Foye on April 13 with second-degree robbery, third-degree larceny and breach of peace in connection with the April 9 robbery at the People’s United Bank at the Stop & Shop in Groton.

Waterford police charged Foye with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny in connection with an April 7 robbery at a Henny Penny convenience store on Route 32 in the Quaker Hill section of Waterford.
