UPDATED: Bernie Sanders' headquarters to open in Norwich

Norwich — The state's first grass-roots headquarters for Bernie Sanders, who is seeking the Democratic Party presidential nomination, will open Tuesday at 95 Main St., Norwich.

The Second Congressional District group for Bernie Sanders will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the office at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The public is invited.

Bonnie Hong, a former Norwich City Council president and co-coordinator of the Second Congressional District group, will speak, along with New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio, the first Democratic elected official in Connecticut to endorse Sanders for president, and other supporters.

Hong said the campaign office will be staffed by volunteers and will not have set scheduled hours.

The office will have a phone for people to leave messages for campaign volunteers.

A fundraiser dinner for the district group's efforts will be held Aug. 28 at the United Congregational Church, 87 Broadway, Norwich, Hong said.
