Stonington teen found guilty in New Hampshire assault
A Stonington teen was found guilty last month in a Concord, N.H. courtroom of assaulting his former girlfriend earlier this year.
According to a Concord District Court clerk, Ronald Hillegass, 19, was found guilty on Aug. 17 of simple assault, a violation that is considered a noncriminal offense in that state.
He was originally charged with two counts of domestic violence and two counts of simple assault.
The clerk also said he had to pay a $1,120 fine, $500 of which was suspended; he must undergo counseling, be on good behavior for three years, have no contact with the victim and tour the Merrimack County jail.
According to newspaper accounts, Hillegass, a student at the prestigious St. Paul's School in Concord, assaulted his then-girlfriend in January after a school dance.
The victim sustained second-degree burns after he allegedly pressed a hot lamp against her leg.
Hillegass graduated this spring from the school and was slated to attend the University of Pennsylvania this fall, according to the Concord Monitor.
