L+M offers Gentle Touch informational session for prospective volunteers
New London — Lawrence + Memorial Hospital is recruiting volunteers for a unique program designed to help relax and comfort patients through Gentle Touch and Guided Imagery.
Those interested in learning more about this hands-on program for volunteers are encouraged to attend an informational meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in Baker Auditorium at the main hospital.
For those who want to continue with the required training, a mandatory one-day training class will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 6. The training class also will be in Baker Auditorium.
The special training is offered by Jamie Nadeau, a certified Gentle Touch trainer and the hospital’s volunteer coordinator.
The program's focus is to use gentle touch to hands and feet, as well as using guided imagery, to relieve the stresses that patients often face.
Volunteers also will be required to complete volunteer registration and health testing and will be asked to make a minimum six-month commitment to the program.
Upon the successful completion of their training, volunteers can be scheduled for days, evenings and weekend assignments, depending on their availability.
Interested candidates need to contact the Volunteer Office by Sept. 23 at (860) 442-0711, ext. 2475.
