    Police seek Groton man in connection with Old Lyme bank robbery

    Connecticut State Police have issued an arrest warrant for a Groton man in connection with the robbery Wednesday of Webster Bank in Old Lyme.

    Police are seeking Herman Smith, 38, of Groton, who may be driving a white Acura MDX and is known to frequent the southeastern Connecticut area.

    The suspect who allegedly robbed the Webster Bank at 7 Halls Road was initially described as a white male, who appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium build and a day or two of facial hair growth, according to police.

    He carried a shoulder satchel-style bag and was seen arriving and leaving the bank on a bicycle.

    Anyone with information regarding Smith is encouraged to contact State Police Troop F in Westbrook at (860) 399-2118 or the Groton Town Police Department at (860) 441-6712.

    The Connecticut Bankers Reward Association is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible for the robbery.
