Fall firearms hunting dates announced
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has announced the opening days of the upcoming fall firearms hunting seasons.
Peak hunting during these seasons occurs during early morning and late afternoon, primarily during the period from mid-October through mid-December, DEEP said in a news release.
Fall firearms hunting dates are:
• last Saturday through Oct. 31 for turkey
• beginning Oct. 7 for waterfowl
• starting 7 a.m. Oct. 17 pheasant, quail, ruffed grouse, chukar partridge and cottontail rabbit.
• starting Nov. 18 for deer
• junior hunter training day for pheasants is scheduled for Oct. 10 on private land only; junior hunting training for waterfowl is scheduled for Oct. 31.
• junior deer hunters can hunt for deer starting Nov. 7 and extending through Nov. 14 (excluding Nov. 8).
The 2015 Connecticut Hunting and Trapping Guide and the 2015-16 Migratory Bird Hunting Guide, which contains additional information on laws, regulations and season dates, can be obtained at town clerk or DEEP Wildlife Division offices, or at www.ct.gov/deep/hunting.
Maps denoting many state-owned hunting areas and most permit-required hunting areas also may be obtained from DEEP's website.
Hunting licenses and permits for 2015 can be purchased at www.ct.gov/deep/sportsmenlicensing or one of the many participating town halls, outdoor equipment retailers and DEEP offices.
