    Fire at Montville auto body shop sends one to hospital, destroys building

    Montville — A fire that was called in at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday likely has destroyed Heiner's Auto Body & Sales garage building, according to Montville firefighters.

    Firefighters said the owner of the shop, which is located at 1073 Norwich-New London Turnpike, was transported to The William W. Backus Hospital with minor burn injuries.

    The cause of the fire, which took about an hour to knock down, is unknown at this time, according to firefighters.

    Firefighters were still on scene at 9 p.m.

    Departments that responded include: Montville Fire Co., Mohegan Fire Co., Mohegan Tribal Fire Department, East Great Plain Volunteer Fire Department, Salem Volunteer Fire Co., Gardner Lake Volunteer Fire Co., Quaker Hill Fire Co., Laurel Hill Volunteer Fire Co. and the Submarine Base FAST team.
