Norwich school facilities survey posted
Norwich — A six-question survey on what residents would like to see in a school restructuring plan was posted Wednesday on both the city’s and the public school system's websites.
The survey is part of an extensive study of the school buildings and educational structure being conducted by a consulting team hired by the School Facilities Review Committee. The survey will be posted through Feb. 17.
The survey starts by listing the city’s current school structure, with seven elementary schools, one sixth-grade school, a middle school for seventh and eighth grades, adult education and a special education school.
The first question asks if this is the right number of schools, or if consolidation or expansion should be considered.
If the respondent favors consolidation, the survey asks how many schools would be appropriate and with what grade structures.
If expansion is recommended, the follow-up question asks how many new buildings and with what grade structures.
The survey then asks respondents to give opinions on various arrangements, such as a consolidated campus, convenient access to schools and transportation and then asks to rank 10 educational components, such as technology and safety measures.
The consultants, a partnership of JCJ Architecture, LEARN, the southeast regional education agency and O&G Industries, plan to make recommendations to the school facilities committee in June.
City officials hope to place any proposed construction or renovation projects on the November ballot for a referendum.
