Essex — The Essex Steam Train has issued a news release urging residents to use caution at rail crossings as seasonal operation begin on March 30.

The Essex Steam Train and Valley Railroad Company will soon increase frequency of train operations on its tracks between Old Saybrook and Dock Road in Haddam.

"Motorists and pedestrians alike are urged to renew their sense of caution and safety at the numerous railroad crossings, heeding the warning of all STOP signs, lights, and gates in using these crossings," the release states.

"All crossings have a toll-free Emergency Contact phone number posted to report emergencies or concerns," the notice continues. "Pedestrians are also cautioned that walking upon or within 15' of the tracks is unsafe, and in violation of State and Federal regulations."

Residents with questions can contact Robert Bradway, V.P. Track and Property, at (860) 964-3422.
