    Havana nights in Old Lyme

More than 150 guests attended this year’s Bookworm Ball March 19 at the Old Lyme Country Club to benefit the Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library

This year’s theme, “A Night in Havana,” featured music from String of Pearls, mojitos and a 1946 Ford Super Deluxe to transport guests to the Cuban capital city of Malecón.

Leslie Massa, committee chairwoman for the Friends of the Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library, said in a press release that the timing of the event was perfect, as President Barack Obama’s visit to Havana was the same weekend.

“[It] helped create some extra buzz around the whole idea of traveling to Cuba – even in our imaginary way,” she said.

Proceeds raised by the event are expected to exceed $20,000, and all support the library programming for children, teens and adults. The Friends aim to raise more than $40,000 every year for the library.
