Rogers Lake to be treated with herbicide on July 5

Rogers Lake in Old Lyme and Lyme will be treated on July 5 with the herbicide flumioxazin to control the non-native aquatic plants fanwort and variable watermilfoil, according to a notice posted on the town of Old Lyme's website.

The lake will be closed to swimming on the day of treatment as an extra precaution, the website states.

In addition, use of the lake water for irrigation purposes will be restricted until July 11.

Warning signs will be posted around the lake in the areas that will be treated as well as at access points.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued a permit for the work.

Funding for the treatment was provided through an Aquatic Invasive Species Management Grant and Prevention and Education Program administered by DEEP.

Information regarding the treatment may be obtained by calling Keith Gazaille, regional director for SOLitude Lake Management, at (508) 865-1000.
