Ledyard receives supplemental impact aid from Department of Defense

Ledyard — The town has received an additional $31,000 in impact aid from the Department of Defense.

The aid, pursuant to federal law, gives additional aid to towns in which significant portions of the enrolled children have parents in active duty in the military, live on military bases or live on tribal land. The money goes directly to the town.

Superintendent of Schools Cathy Patterson said this was the first time they had received supplemental aid under the federal program.

Groton received $100,000 under the program last year.

The Board of Education Finance Committee, at a meeting Wednesday evening, directed Business Manager Jason Lathrop to request that the money be directed to the school budget's capital non-recurring account at the next meeting of the Town Council.
