Davis Standard expansion approved by Stonington PZC

Stonington — The Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a 15,045-square-foot expansion to the Davis-Standard manufacturing facility, which will give it space to house the operations of a Massachusetts firm that it recently purchased.

After the commission’s decision on Tuesday, Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman John Prue called Davis-Standard “a very important part of our community.”

“Davis-Standard prepared a quality application, which conforms to our regulations. We wish them well in this effort,” he said in a statement released by the town,

Earlier this month, the State Bond Commission approved $1.3 million in grants to help Davis-Standard pay for the project which the extrusion company said will allow it to add 30 well-paying, skilled machinist jobs to the local economy within the next two years. It currently employs more than 400 people at its Pawcatuck location.

The addition will be constructed at the front of the Davis-Standard building facing Route 1. Work is slated to be completed later this fall. Last September, Davis-Standard announced it had acquired Gloucester Engineering of Gloucester, Mass. The expansion will allow Davis Standard to move the firm’s blown film manufacturing from Gloucester to Pawcatuck.
