Third Preston school budget referendum to be held Tuesday
Preston — Voters will return to the polls Tuesday in the third attempt to pass a 2016-17 school budget.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall, 389 Route 2, Preston to vote on the proposed $11,218,250 school budget.
The town government budget was approved by voters in the first budget referendum May 19, but the $11,394,897 million school budget overwhelmingly was defeated.
The Board of Finance then cut $156,647 from the total, bringing it to $11,238,250 for a second referendum, which failed by five votes on June 21.
The Board of Finance cut another $20,000, bringing the new total to $11,218,250.
The finance board will hold a special meeting at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after the polls close to discuss the referendum results.
