Stonington zoning board continues Perkins Farm hearing to Aug. 16

Mystic — The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission has continued its public hearing on an application to create a new floating zone to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Mystic Middle School.

Approval of the Greenway Development District is the first step that developer David Lattizori needs to create a $60 million medical, research and residential campus on 70 acres of the Perkins Farm property off of Jerry Browne Road.

During the beginning of the hearing on Tuesday night, the application for the new zone was met with widespread support from Stone Ridge residents, town officials and business owners, a contrast with the opposition that previous commercial proposals for the site faced.

Over the next two weeks, Stonington Director of Planning Jason Vincent said commission members will forward him questions they have about the proposal so they can be answered in time for the Aug. 16 hearing.

If the commission approves the creation of the new zone, Lattizori would have to return to the commission for approval of a master plan and site plan, which would require more public hearings.

The new zone would require the preservation of at least 50 percent of the site as open space and allow a mix of uses on at least 50 acres of land in four separate zones.
